Alqueva, que significa ‘’terra de pousio’’ ou ‘’deserta’’ é a vila que deu o nome ao maior lago artificial da Europa, oferece inúmeras atividades para se deleitar com este pedaço de terra Alentejano.

Monsaraz, “Aldeia Monumento”, uma das 7 Maravilhas de Portugal nesta categoria, encontra-se a 50km de Évora, com uma vista privilegiada do Grande Lago. Podemos começar o nosso dia por aqui. Fugir à regra e acordar bem cedinho para olhar o amanhecer, é reconfortante para quem assiste a este retirar da cortina para observar um palco deslumbrante.
Com 250 km2 e um vasto ecossistema que tão bem lhe assenta, pode também observar os animais que pastam nos montes ou as belíssimas árvores que dão vida ao local. E para não ficar por terra, porque não aproveitar uma viagem de barco?
Continuando o percurso - pelos caminhos de xisto, repare que à sua volta pode ver monumentos e vestígios arqueológicos, sepulturas megalíticas e o incrível Cromeleque do Xerez. É um dos mais interessantes exemplares do megalitismo português. Pensa-se que seja datado dos inícios de 4.000 a.C a 3.000 a.C. É constituído por 55 menires com aproximadamente 1,20 a 1,50 metros, dispostos em torno do um grande Menir central de configuração fálica, com uns 4,50 metros de altura e cerca de 7 toneladas de peso. É um monumento da pré-história, associado ao culto dos astros e da natureza, considerado um local de rituais religiosos e de encontro tribal.

Monsaraz, the “Aldeia Monumento”, one of the 7 Wonders of Portugal in this category, is 31 miles from Évora, with a privileged view of the Lake. We can start our day here. Continuing the route, through the schist paths, notice that around you can see monuments and archaeological remains, megalithic graves and the incredible Cromeleque do Xerez. It is one of the most interesting examples of Portuguese megalithism. It is thought to be dated from the beginning of 4,000 b. C to 3,000 b. C It consists of 55 menhirs measuring approximately 131.23yd to 158.57yd, arranged around a large central Menhir of phallic configuration, with a height of 492.13yd and about 15lb in weight. It is a monument of prehistory, associated with the cult of stars and nature, considered a place of religious rituals and tribal encounters.
